Mark 9:24
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
You can’t help but feel the pain and the honesty in the father’s statement to Jesus when says that he believes, but help me with my unbelief.
We have all had times of doubts, even saints like C.S. Lewis, Martin Luther, and even Billy Graham have had doubts in many areas of their Christian lives.
I read a great account of Billy Graham’s, it’s is known as the “Tree Stump Prayer”.
I have provided a link to the full story below. It gives an account of how Billy Graham went through a time when he struggled with doubts about the Bible’s validity. It also gives a testimony of how the Holy Spirit helped Billy overcome his doubts. Please take time to read the account of Bill Graham’s.
Billy Graham came to a decision about the word of God, and he decided in his heart that the bible was the truth. For a while he had been trying to decide with his head and not his heart. The Bible tells us in 2 Cor. 5:7 we are to walk by faith, not by sight. In Romans 10:17 it says “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. And in Romans 17:1 it says “we live by faith”.
Billy Graham decided even if he could not answer all of the critic’s questions about the bible, he was going to believe by faith that bible was the truth.
We will have times that we will experience doubts about multiple things, most common among the long list of doubts, is the doubting of one’s salvation. What did you bring to the table of salvation??? We brought nothing to the table except our contrite and broken hearts and our repentance of sins and trespasses. All we can do is trustingly believe by faith that Jesus Christ is Lord and He can save us.
So beloved, please don’t forget we are not saving ourselves, but we are being save by Jesus the Righteous! Our salvation is not based on works, its based on the work of Jesus Christ. So often we find ourselves thinking we need to work or strive to stay saved. If you have through faith believed on Jesus to save you, then you are saved. His grip on us is stronger than any weakness that we may have. He holds us and no one, nor any force can snatch us from His strong hand. The saved are found and they safe and secured. Christ is the savior and we are the saved. He is sure and confident in His work He has begun in us, and He is sure to finish it.
May the Lord who created the heavens and the earth richly bless you.
